A Million Years At The Bowery Poetry Club

A Million Years: January 6 @ Bowery Poe
try Club, New York, NY

A few nights ago, I headed down to the LES to catch a burlesque show at Bowery Poetry Club. Great fun was had by all. As I was putting on my coat, a guy was moving the chairs off to the side. I ask who would be playing. He couldn't remember the bands name. Just as he said that, I looked up and saw familiar faces! I said, "A Million Years!" perhaps a little on the giddy side cause he looked at me oddly. He replied while continuing to look at me oddly, "yeah, that's it." So, I decided to stay.

I had no idea the band was playing but it was a nice surprise. The show was a going away party for a young lady named Tara. I don't know you Tara, but best wishes!

I became familiar with the Brooklyn based A Million Years several months ago. It was a month or two after the release of their album Mischief Maker was released. If you haven't already, check it out. "Suspicious," from the release, is addictive and my favorite track. (Update: check out video of the track from the show below.)

Anyway, though I had met the band before, due to conflicting schedules for a couple and being horribly ill for another, this was the first chance I had to see a show since getting into their music. A Million Years put on an effortless set. They’re a tight band who played with well practiced ease. I can easily see these guys headlining arena stages. There’s just something about ‘em.

If they happen to be playing near you, check them out. If you’re in New York, you’ll get your chance on February 11. They’ll be at Mercury Lounge and it’ll cost you $10. See you there?

My Song Of The Day: A Million Years - Suspicious

New York based rockers A Million Years have invaded my head. Well, their song has. And because I've had this song, "Suspicious," stuck in my head for the last two + hours, I've decided to share it with you and declare it my song of the day. I'd like to thank them personally for the invasion and subsequent takeover of my head. Oh, and in case you've forgotten, the band will be at Spike Hill in Brooklyn this Saturday, October 23 at 5:15. Go check them out.

Upcoming Shows: Marina V, Jump Into The Gospel & More

New York area friends and folks in general, it's time for another upcoming shows alert.

Saturday, September 11, A Million Years will be at The Studio at Webster Hall. Doors are at 8PM and tix are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Monday, September 13, Russian songbird Marina V will be in New York! She'll be on the LES at Rockwood Music Hall. It's a FREE gig so you have no excuses not to swing by, say hi to her and her musical partner Nick (they're just the sweetest) and hear some good music. Get there early, she goes on at 6PM.

Shwa and The Good Times are spending every Tuesday in September at Rockwood Music Hall. If you missed them this Tuesday, then be sure to catch them next week, September 14. They go on at 8PM. And, another, no excuses gig, it's FREE! They have one of the worlds catchiest songs, "Penultimate Dance" and a song that stayed on repeat for a good while "Sandy Don't Worry."

Monday's are a good night to check out music. September 20, New York's Jump Into The Gospel (pictured) will be at Mercury Lounge. It's 10 at 10 ... $10 at 10PM. Check them out. They won me over when I happened to catch them back in February.

Also on Monday, September 20, Sharon Little will be on the LES as well. She'll be at Rockwood Music Hall on Stage 2. She's on early, 7:30PM and it'll cost you $10. I became a fan of her music when I came across her first album on Amie Street a couple of years ago. Her EP, First Cut is available on her official website but will be released the following day, 9/21 via digital outlets. It's a sneak peek of her upcoming second album Paper Doll which will be released early next year.

Need something to do Tuesday, September 21? Well, head on over to Mercury Lounge and catch Red Wanting Blue. They're on at 8:30PM and it'll cost you $10. They put on a hell of a live show. Buy your tickets now, I think they sold out the last time they were there. You don't want to get left at the door looking all sad eyed and pitiful because you couldn't get in.

Check with venues as times can be subject to change.
