Song of the Day: Dancing Heals - "Always On My Mind"

Earlier this month, Australian band Dancing Heals released their single "Always On My Mind". Their debut album, Into The Night, saw them receiving favorable reviews.  They are currently working on their second album.  Check out the track below.

Dancing Heals are currently finishing up their second album, that captures more of their live sound and draws from longtime influences such as Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac.
Dancing Heals love to wave the nostalgia flag and “Always On My Mind” is no different. A sonically raw reflection on the confusing emotions of letting someone go... and never forgetting.  With their unique brand of sultry indie pop, made for the masses, Dancing Heals are ready to take over the music world. Singer Jon-Lee Farrell's voice is smooth and haunting throughout the track, with echoing guitars and unforgettable harmonies that will certainly intrigue and charm you.

Q & A with Josh Rigal of Little Brother Eli

Earlier this year, some fellas from the UK caught my ear.  I took an instant liking to their sound which is a warm mix of blues, soul and rock. They are, Little Brother Eli.

The band has been working on an EP that we'll be able to hear on April 25. Naturally, I wanted to know more about the band so, I sent some questions over and Josh Rigal from the band sent over some answers. This is the result of our ‘e-chat’.

Quirky NY Chick (QNYC): Tell us a little about yourself. How did the band come together?

Josh Rigal (JR): Me and Alex (Grew), other than being best friends, had played together for years in our old band before it broke up in 2010. We met up in April of 2012, we were just hanging out, playing bits of music and ended up writing a song called Mary. From then it just took off for us, more and more songs just started flowing organically.

After we had written all this material we decided to get a band together - consisting of the talented Linus Taylor and Adam Stowe on guitars and Benji Page on drums (with myself on bass and Alex on vocals).

Maya Vik to Play Series of NY Shows

Norwegian singer/bassist Maya Vik is slated to perform five shows in New York starting this week.  Check out the dates below.  To whet your appetite, scroll down and have a look at the video for "Bummer Gun".

4/24 – NordAmerica @ Tammany Hall – Manhattan, NY
4/25 – Public Assembly – Brooklyn, NY
4/28 – Pianos – Manhattan, NY
4/29 – Trash Bar – Brooklyn, NY
4/30 – Fontana's – Manhattan, NY

Vik recently released both a Mixtape, On It (Kapow!), and an EP for the U.S. via Oslo Records. A collection of singles and remixes from her two solo albums, tracks feature musical assists from such heavyweights as Morgan Phalen (vocalist for Justice and Diamond Nights) and Block Beattaz (who have produced for such artists as Freddie Gibbs and Mike Posner).

Caught My Ear: Hannah & Maggie

Sometimes it takes me a while to get around to listening to things ... work, life and stuff are time consuming.  So, I often tuck things aside to listen to later which I generally do.  At times, things get buried and I happen across it again usually while looking for something else I've tucked away.  I happened upon Hannah and Maggie in my "listen to later" file.  I finally listened and guess what?  I like what I heard.  Their harmonies are sharp and crystal clear; the vocals are very pretty.  They released an album, Muscle & Bone last year.  The tour video below features the track "Burlington, VT" from the album.  My pick for album highlight is "Curfew".
