James Bay’s “Let It Go” was produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Of Monsters and Men) and is a heartfelt bookend to a past relationship, which James admits was “super personal and quite hard to write. It outlines the point in a relationship where you think that you should perhaps put it all to bed. We tried it again, and we tried really hard. Maybe we can just be friends and let it go. It’s really honest, and I got something off my chest.”

Hailing from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, James Bay is a 23 year old singer/songwriter who has had a quick rise to success after he was discovered in early 2013 and later was selected as an opening act for The Rolling Stones at their Hyde Park show in 2013. The same year he released his The Dark of The Morning EP and also opened for Newman, Kodaline, Tom Odell, Beth Orton and will be going on tour with Hozier this fall.

If I Dropped By... with Jared Kolesar of Jared & The Mill

This week, I posed my "If i Dropped By…" question to Jared Kolesar of Jared & The Mill. The band garnered national attention after they went to the hospital and played for a fan who had been injured in the horrible vehicle accident that took place during SXSW.  Then, came word that they would be supporting pop legend Barry Gibb on his current tour which will make a stop at Jones Beach Theater on Friday, May 23.  I recommend checking them out if you haven't already done so; they're talented fellas. That being said, it seemed like the perfect time to make one of my hypothetical visits.

Quirky NY Chick (QNYC): ... and brought a friend who didn't know your music, what song of yours would you play for them and why?

Jared Kolesar (JK): There's a song we play that isn't on the record unfortunately, but it's a fairly clear example of what we're about, it's a western waltz ballad about missing somebody back home despite how much fun you're having with your friends out on adventures. Larry also has a phat solo he plays and it gets me all riled up.  It's called "Confessions of an Outlaw" by the way.

Love Crushed Velvet - "Bye Bye Baby"

Check out this clip from Love Crushed Velvet.  It's for the track, "Bye Bye Baby", from the album Delusions.

The highly anticipated release of Delusions cemented the band's place in the world of dark, melodic rock. Driven by lead singer/songwriter A.L.X., Love Crushed Velvet shows off exceptional emotional and stylistic range in lyric and musicality. Reminiscent of the glory days of rock and roll, Love Crushed Velvet has carved out a unique place in today's music world, paying homage to the past while remaining firmly grounded in the present.

Delusions is a powerful force that touches upon the complications of love, fame and our global society. The EP begins right at the apex, with its premiere single "Revolution Time", capturing an unyielding spirit of upheaval inspired by the personal experiences and perspective of A.L.X. The second single, "Bye Bye Baby" is about how difficult it is to process the end of a relationship. A.L.X. explains, "After having spent time getting close to someone and developing a deep bond with them, it can feel very confusing when things start to fall apart.  It makes you question whether you every really knew the person at all, or whether they just showed you one side of themselves.  The reality, of course, is that there are usually underlying issues or conflicts that we often don't take properly into account early on in the relationship, and we later pay a steep emotional price for this when that reality comes back to bite us."

The Kooks - "Around Town" + Upcoming Album

The Kooks released a video for their track "Around Town" this week.  The song is from their upcoming album, Listen which is scheduled for release on September 2 via Astralwerks.  The Ryan Hope directed video stars Christopher Fairband and Pom Klementieff.  The clip is rather violent so, I suppose you could label it NSFW and not suitable for children.

Inspired by directors Luke Besson and Quentin Tarantino, Luke Pritchard of the band explains the creative approach they took when making the video: "We decided rather than simply put a video to music we would do somethingmore cinematic. It was very much a collaboration with director Ryan Hope. We wanted to evoke the directors Besson and Tarantino while also exploring themes of Karma and the poem 'If'.

The band will also be hitting the road this summer.  They'll make a stop in New York at Terminal 5 on Tuesday, July 29.  It will cost you $30 adv / $35 dos and it's all ages.  See below for additional tour dates and to view the video.

Listen is out September 2nd via Astralwerks. Produced by young hip hop pioneer Inflo and Luke Pritchard, it showcases a new direction and sound for the multi platinum selling UK act.

"To me," Luke says, "this album is about pure expression. Even the way we made the album felt fresh. Rather than us just being a band in a room, playing our guitars with the vocal over the top, which is what we'd always done before, we were really listening to what was going on around us, picking up ideas. The whole thing was much more natural."

Listen is made up of 11 tracks (the Deluxe has 15), with highlights including the street-smart garage rock of "Bad Habit," the powerful and haunting "See Me Now," and the incandescent joy of "Are We Electric."
