Paul McCartney To Re-release Band On The Run, November 2

Paul McCartney & Wings classic record, Band on the Run, will be re-released on November 2. The record is the first release from the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

The re-mastering of Band on the Run, originally recorded in 1973, was supervised by McCartney who worked with the same team who did the recent re-mastering of the complete Beatles' catalog. The record will come in several formats, the single CD standard edition, the 2CD/1DVD special edition, the 3 CD/1 DVD deluxe edition and a vinyl edition. I have a well known Sir Paul soft spot, so I have my sights set on the deluxe edition! In addition to the re-mastered music, I'm looking forward to the packaging. I love a nicely packaged product.

Heralded as one of the greatest albums of all time, the GRAMMY winning, smash # 1 album - originally released December of 1973 - yielded the immortal title track and world-wide hit “Jet” becoming Wings’ most successful and celebrated album ever.

Paul McCartney personally supervised all aspects of the Band on the Run reissue. The remastering work was done at Abbey Road using the same team who recently remastered the complete Beatles’ catalog.

Band on the Run will be available in a variety of formats originating with the single disc digitally remastered, essential 9-track standard edition. The 3 disc (2CD, 1 DVD) special edition features nine bonus audio tracks (including the top 10 smash “Helen Wheels”), rare footage of the McCartneys in Lagos and behind-the-scenes at the famous album cover shoot, original Band on the Run promotional video clips, the One Hand Clapping television special (highlighted by studio performances filmed at Abbey Road in 1974) all with beautifully enhanced packaging. Collectors will be especially thrilled by the 4 disc (3CD, 1 DVD) deluxe edition which adds an extraordinary 120-page hard bound book containing many unseen and unpublished photos by Linda McCartney and Clive Arrowsmith, album and single artwork, downloadable hi-res audio versions of the remastered album and bonus audio tracks, a full history of the album complete with a new interview with Paul and expanded track by track information for all four discs. The deluxe edition also includes a special Band on the Run audio documentary (originally produced for the 25th Anniversary edition.) The original remastered album and bonus audio content will also be issued in a 2 disc 180gm audiophile vinyl edition that comes with an MP3 download of all 18 tracks. Lastly, the standard and deluxe versions of Band on the Run will be available digitally worldwide.

Neil Young's Le Noise Out Today

Neil Young is back with a new record, Le Noise. It's out today, September 28. The eight song record was produced by Daniel Lanois. Check out the video of "Love and War" from the record below.
Young and Lanois have crossed paths musically over the course of many years (Lanois’ performances at Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert and Young’s performance at Farm Aid when Lanois was Willie Nelson’s music director) but this is the first time the two have recorded together.

Recorded in Lanois’ home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, Le Noise
features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures, creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just “a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording,” as Lanois puts it.

Book Signing With Rock Photographer Gered Mankowitz

There will be a book signing with rock photographer Gered Mankowitz this Saturday, September 25. Mankowitz will be at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in Soho from 1 to 4 PM signing his book, "The Experience: Jimi Hendrix at Masons Yard." The book features essays along with classic shots of Hendrix and his band as well as unseen photos. The who, what, when & where are below.

Read essays by some of music’s top journalist and page through photographs of Jimi and his band. World-renowned rock photographer Gered Mankowitz did two photo shoots with Jimi and The Experience: Jimi Hendrix at Masons Yard is the chance for fans to experience this moment in time.

Hendrix had just taken London by storm with a BBC session that rocked the music world, cementing him as one of the most influential musicians from his era and Gered Mankowitz captured this historical moment at his legendary Masons Yard Studio. Mankowitz was assigned the task of capturing the bands personality, but he took it one step further and created the visual trademarks the trio is known for today.

These photographs are a mixture of classics (The cover of Hendrix greatest hits album) and never before seen images that will remind readers who Jimi was and might have been, giving a glimpse into sides no one has ever seen before. The Experience gives readers something to hold onto that will undoubtedly conjure up memories from the years when the world had Jimi.

Laurie Anderson Set To Bring Delusion To BAM Starting Tomorrow

Performance artist Laurie Anderson will open the 2010 BAM Next Wave Festival with Delusion. It's the New York premiere of the multi-media show. The details are below along with a video clip of Anderson discussing the show.

In Delusion, music redolent with Tibetan temple horns and Arabic strings is performed by Anderson on electronically enhanced violin with a supporting virtuoso ensemble and video imagery. Delusion's structure imitates the meandering nature of one’s personal thoughts, exploring themes from politics to personal loss—and touching on topics including the decline of the American empire, time, the mystic who started the Russian space program, punctuation, heritage—fusing the internal and external worlds into a mystical whole. Anderson shifts between her own voice and that of a male persona, Fenway Bergamot. Delusion's striking visual elements include Anderson’s animation, film sequences by noted cinematographers Maryse Alberti and Toshiaki Ozawa, and additional animation and overall video design by artist Amy Khoshbin. Performers include the composer/performers Eyvind Kang on viola and Colin Stetson on horns. Delusion includes two signature pieces of Nonesuch Records.
