Russian songbird Marina V and her music partner Nick Baker made a stop in our lovely city last week. Marina charmed the audience and played selections from her latest release, My Song. Check out video of her performing "My Song," the albums title track and the opening number to last weeks show below. I'll have a photo gallery up in the coming days.

Saturday, September 11, A Million Years will be at The Studio at Webster Hall. Doors are at 8PM and tix are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Monday, September 13, Russian songbird Marina V will be in New York! She'll be on the LES at Rockwood Music Hall. It's a FREE gig so you have no excuses not to swing by, say hi to her and her musical partner Nick (they're just the sweetest) and hear some good music. Get there early, she goes on at 6PM.
Shwa and The Good Times are spending every Tuesday in September at Rockwood Music Hall. If you missed them this Tuesday, then be sure to catch them next week, September 14. They go on at 8PM. And, another, no excuses gig, it's FREE! They have one of the worlds catchiest songs, "Penultimate Dance" and a song that stayed on repeat for a good while "Sandy Don't Worry."
Monday's are a good night to check out music. September 20, New York's Jump Into The Gospel (pictured) will be at Mercury Lounge. It's 10 at 10 ... $10 at 10PM. Check them out. They won me over when I happened to catch them back in February.
Also on Monday, September 20, Sharon Little will be on the LES as well. She'll be at Rockwood Music Hall on Stage 2. She's on early, 7:30PM and it'll cost you $10. I became a fan of her music when I came across her first album on Amie Street a couple of years ago. Her EP, First Cut is available on her official website but will be released the following day, 9/21 via digital outlets. It's a sneak peek of her upcoming second album Paper Doll which will be released early next year.
Need something to do Tuesday, September 21? Well, head on over to Mercury Lounge and catch Red Wanting Blue. They're on at 8:30PM and it'll cost you $10. They put on a hell of a live show. Buy your tickets now, I think they sold out the last time they were there. You don't want to get left at the door looking all sad eyed and pitiful because you couldn't get in.

Marina V & Nick Baker: November 11 @ Caffe Vivaldi, New York, NY
I took a trip to Caffe Vivaldi in the West Village to see Russian songbird Marina Verenikina who was accompanied by Nick Baker. I'd never been to Caffe Vivaldi before so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's an adorable little bar/cafe with a small area up front for live acts. I'd guess it holds about forty or fifty people. That might be a generous count though. Marina has a lovely voice and is a captivating performer. She sang the beautiful "Babushka," a song dedicated to her late grandmother, in Russian. I had no idea what she was saying but it was absolutely stunning live. Though she did a number of songs solo (accompanying herself on piano), Nick added his talents accompanying her on acoustic guitar. For the song "Hope," my favorite from her newest album Modern Fairytale, she proved she's quite capable with an acoustic guitar too. With the exception of the closing number, The Beatles "Here, There & Everywhere," all of the songs were Marina & Nick compositions. They happen to be excellent songwriters as well.
With the size of the venue, it felt like you were sitting in someones living room. Marina's strong voice would serve her well on a big stage and I'd love to see her in that setting. But, it was nice being able to hear her in such an intimate space where crisp clean vocals such as hers shine. Both Marina and Nick lit up the room with their warmth and charm. They put on a terrific down to Earth show. After the show, they greeted their fans with hugs and smiles.

I had a great time and look forward to seeing them perform again.
