The Avett Brothers To Release New Album, June 24 + Tour Dates

The Avett Brothers announced their upcoming album True Sadness this week. It will be released via American/Republic Records on June 24.  The first single from the album will be "Ain't No Man". See below for a look at the album artwork.

The Avett Brothers will be taking the stage at Madison Square Garden on April 8. See below for more details and a list of tour dates.

Friday, April 8
7th Ave & 32nd Street
New York, NY
Doors: 8PM

The record reflects THE AVETT BROTHERS’ artistic, musical, and personal evolution over 16 years as a band. Eloquently describing what’s to come on the horizon, Seth writes, “True Sadness is a patchwork quilt, both thematically and stylistically. Wherein a myriad of contrasting fabrics make perfect sense on the same plane, this album draws upon countless resources from its writers and performers.”

He goes on to cite pervasive and cornerstone influences such as, “Queen, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Jimmie Rodgers, Tom Petty, Nine Inch Nails, Gillian Welch, Aretha Franklin, Walt Disney, Pink Floyd, Kings of Convenience, calypso of the 1950’s and country of the 1930’s.”

Most importantly, he assures, “Throughout the album, we stitched together the boldest red and the calmest green, polka dots and stripes, the roughest denim and the smoothest velveteen. They came together because they are the best patterns we have and because each of us brought our own fabric to the quilting frame.”

Beth Orton To Release New Album, May 27

Beth Orton is scheduled to release her new album, Kidsticks, on May 27. You can pre-order the album HERE.  Check out the track "Moon" from the album below.

When musicians talk about getting back to their roots, it's usually an excuse to pull out a battered old acoustic to create some bare bones music. In Beth Orton's case, going back to her roots meant something very different.
Having relocated to California a couple of years ago, Beth began experimenting with a series of electronic loops that would eventually come together as her career-redefining new album; a record inspired both by the wide-open nature of Los Angeles and the spirit of Beth's earliest recordings (electronic work with producers like William Orbit, Andrew Weatherall and Kieran Hebden as well as groove-based music with Red Snapper).
Co-produced by Beth and Andrew Hung (Fuck Buttons) and mixed by David Wrench (Caribou/Hot Chip), Kidsticks repositions Beth's unmistakable voice inside ten pure, audacious, playful and kinetic songs. A resolutely focused album, it represents a rare chance to hear an established artist get plugged in and completely rework the songwriting process with wide-eyed, open-minded glee.

The Great Train Robbery was born in Anderson, IN and named for a 1903 Western. The band serves as a revolving door of collaborating musicians to underscore Powell’s evolving craft and has independently released two EPs and three full-lengths since their inception in 2011. In the wake of the Appalachian-tinged folk record Man Is Born for Trouble, Joshua departed on a Kerouacian gypsy spree, touring back and forth across the country, playing six nights a week, and living in an old minivan.

When he eventually returned to the Indiana town that molded his art, he laid down fibrous roots and refocused his energies into becoming a regional staple. Here, he began funneling his collected experiences into his most ambitious record yet, the newly-released Alyosha: a deeply textural electric brand of avant-garde folk, spiritually informed by classic Russian literature and pressed to vinyl.

The album features experimentation with electric guitars, effect chains, and keyboard sounds, with Powell’s vocal delivery at its most unaffected and lucid. The lyrics, as ever, are central to the work and cover a variety of themes: from controversial drone politics and Hoosier post-industrialism, to Aesopian fables and witch trials.
