The Music Slut & Sneak Attack Media CMJ Party, Pt. 1: Sean Bones

Sean Bones: October 20 @ Pianos, New York, NY

Fellow music blog The Music Slut, along with Sneak Attack Media tossed a free CMJ day party at Pianos. You missed it? For shame! It was a great party! There were twelve bands plus DJ's. I managed to catch three of the bands.

First up for me was Sean Bones. For those who don't know, I first experienced the band back in May and have been fond of them since. Sean Bones is one of those bands that you can't help but have fun watching. They are quite simply infectious and are on my list of bands to see live. The band kicked off their set with my favorite song of theirs, "Sugar In My Spoon" and closed out their short, but wickedly fun set with the rollicking "Dancehall."

They're taking to the road, check them out when they play near you. For those of us in New York, they'll be at Purevolume tonight (10/21), Mercury Lounge on Thursday (10/22) and on November 20, they'll be over at Terminal 5 with Grace Potter and Brett Dennen (damn, that's a good line up!) so there's plenty of opportunity to catch them NY.

Sean Bones Releases Rings

New York based Sean Bones released Rings today, July 21. For those unfamiliar with Sean Bones, they play reggae based indie pop. I'm not normally into anything reggae aside from a few old school things so, it may come as a shock to anyone who knows me that I would like this band. But, I saw them perform at the end of May and they put on a hell of a show and thus the reason I decided to check out the record.

Rings is full of laid back summertime listening. The highlights for me are "Dancehall" and "Sugar In My Spoon" the latter of which is a must see live. Live the song is one of those combo "say wha ... well damn" things. That aside, the studio version is just as enjoyable. I'd say if you like your indie pop firmly ensconced in reggae beats, you'll like this record. It'll be the record you throw on late into the barbecue and dance with your friends, drink firmly in hand.

If you're in NY, then you have a few chances to catch the band. They're having a record release party at Glasslands in Brooklyn tomorrow, July 22. If you can't make that, they'll be tearing up the LES at Pianos on July 30 and at Mercury Lounge on August 7. So, go check them out. The initiated already know they'll get a good show. Those not in the know, go, you just might find yourself like me, wowed by a killer show.

Sean Bones Live

Sean Bones: May 28 @ Mercury Lounge, New York, NY

Last night, Sean Bones hit the stage over at Mercury Lounge. Prior to them being on this particular bill, I'll admit, I'd never heard of them. I listened to a couple of songs online and determined I wanted to get there early enough to check them out. I wasn't sure what to expect but I soon found out what they were about. They were fun and rocked out a good set. I was particularly taken with the song they closed with, "Sugar In My Spoon." If you missed them last night, they'll be over at Music Hall of Williamsburg next Friday, June 5, with Love Is All. Check them out if you're in the neighborhood.

Here are a few photos of their set.
