Nova Heart - “My Song 9”

Check out the song “My Song 9” from Chinese band Nova Heart.

If the music planet these days is inhabited by candy colored pop munchkins, ruby red dance floors, and twerking teddy bears, here comes the Wicked Witch of the East.  Staunchly opposed to the oh so technicolored predictable dance tracks that have goo'd and gaga'd the world, a band out of China, yes you heard me, China, has produced an electronic EP finally with a nasty, nasty side to drive fear into the all the denizens of OZ.
This is not for the club, but for the lonely, lonely walk home after a night at the club.  It's music for walking through streets filled with tranny prostitutes (Beautiful Boys) and coming down from lord knows what (My Song 9).  As if emerging from the polluted fog of Beijing, Nova Heart gives you garbled transmissions from an enemy satellite, telling you that for every up there is a down, for every pleasure there is a price.

And this message, like an ominous counterpoint, is filled with sex unfulfilled and builds that lead to a slide into oblivion. Dark analog scenes created by Italian cowboy Rodion are filled to the brim with the siren's call of lead singer Helen Feng that promises both sex and mortality - all at the same time.  Deceptive pop melodies that lead you down the road as if setting you up for the kill before they diverge and you drop down that endless well.

The Torn ACLs - "Way Out"

Check out the latest single, "Way Out", from The Torn ACLs.

Adding to their collection of phenomenal singles and video they have released this year, “Way Out,” contains echoing guitar tones, thumping drums, driving keyboards, and singer William Cremin’s voice create the perfect sugary track. With haunting vocal harmonies heard throughout, the lively track provides a vibrant feeling that will have your ears craving more. The Torn ACLs have a knack for writing polished, energetic indie pop, a sound they have carefully crafted over the years. Their sound is reminiscent of acts such as Ra Ra Riot and Born Ruffians, with the compositional quirks of Islands.

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - "Life Is Hard"

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros recently released a video for the song “Life Is Hard”.  Check it out below.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are premiering an all new video for the single "Life Is Hard" today via BigSunFoundation.org. The video features an acoustic version of the song, recorded live at WVUF in New York, set to the World Press Photo Contest winners of 2013, held yearly to showcase the highest standards in photojournalism and share them with millions.

Lead singer Alex Ebert said of the collaboration, "On some sleepless and homeless night, towards the end of my first trip to Amsterdam, I stumbled into what perhaps was a cathedral. It must have been midnight or thereabouts, but it was aglow and bustling. I entered and never forgot the experience not the name of the experience - it was an exhibit of World Press Photo winners. Years later, I am honored to have been given permission to put some of the photography from this year's winners to an acoustic recording of a song that means a lot to me called 'Life Is Hard'."

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have always been passionate about the community. From their earliest days in 2007, the band has consistently created music that uplifts and brings people together from all over the world. Individually and collectively, they've actively supported a variety of charitable endeavors, including: Charity Water, VH1 Save The Music Foundation, The American Red Cross, and many more. It is in this spirit that Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have formed the Big Sun Foundation - a non-profit organization that believes in the power of a unified world community. "We will identify causes and social issues that are important to all of us and work together to create opportunities to make a difference in the world one beautiful human at a time," said the members of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. "In joining together, we will bring awareness and support to causes that are fighting for the rights and basic needs of all beings."
