The Pride of Canada Carousel To Make Public Debut on July 1

The Pride of Canada Carousel, a one of a kind, rideable, fine art, nationally themed merry-go-round is set to make its public debut at a celebration on Canada Day, July 1, Noon - 5PM. The artistic piece was created by Canadian-born, California-based urban folk artist Patrick Amiot.

The interactive, eco-friendly carousel (it's made from repurposed materials) features 120 works of art. It's located at 8080 Birchmount Rd. in Downtown Markham (Ontario, Canada).

"Patrick's remarkable sculptures celebrate our culture, geography and history with an unrivaled joy while offering a Canadian history lesson in a unique and entertaining fashion," said Shelley M. Shier, Art Consultant/Curator for Concepts and Acquisitions, Remington Contemporary Art Collection. "There is not another carousel like this anywhere in the world. Its appeal is universal and generational."
The Pride of Canada Carousel is many things – a piece of kinetic art, whimsy and engineering in motion, a joyful lifestyle connection to tradition and a bucket list destination for globetrotters who seek an old-fashioned ride on a 21st Century Carousel.
The legendary Daniel Horenberger of Brass Ring Carousel Company built the Carousel structure. Some of his notable carousels include Disneyland’s King Arthur Carrousel and the General Electric solar-powered Carousolar.
The Pride of Canada Carousel is housed in a dramatic open glass pavilion designed by acclaimed Toronto-based architect Sheldon Levitt of Quadrangle Architects, Ltd. and will serve as a cultural anchor and meeting place in the 243-acre Downtown Markham development.

Arc Iris Release Video + Tour Dates

Today we have for you "Kaleidoscope" from Arc Iris. The clip was directed by Julia Liu. The track is from their upcoming album, Moon Saloon which is set to be released on August 19. You can pre-order it HERE.

Arc Iris will begin their residency at C'mon Everybody on July 5. See below for dates.

Moon Saloon developed from the band’s distillations of musical influences, combining traditional elements with percussive structures and dense, beguiling harmonies. In many ways this second album captures Arc Iris’ musical odyssey as a band. “It has a heavier sound, more intense,” says Arc Iris keyboardist Zach Tenorio-Miller, who makes liberal use of sampling in many of the songs. The group matches an unusual array of organic acoustic instruments with layered electronic sounds.
Lead singer and lyricist Jocie Adams, Tenorio-Miller, and drummer Ray Belli form the core of Arc Iris, all virtuosic musicians in their own right. Adams spent eight years as a key member of indie darlings The Low Anthem, effortlessly zipping from hammer dulcimer to clarinet to bass to vocals, sometimes barely pausing to take a breath. As the band members see it, Moon Saloon works like a song cycle that parallels the arc of Everyman’s passage through modern day dilemmas. According to Adams: “The album is meant to be cathartic. There’s an imbalance in everyone’s lives. When there’s often so much going on, we yearn for simplicity.”
Adams wrote most of the songs during a songwriting retreat on an island in New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee several months before the recording session. For Adams, it was a week-long creative rush with no electricity, no running water, no cell phones—just a bed in a cabin and an acoustic guitar. She took her work back to Providence, where she and Tenorio-Miller worked on the songs, layering sounds, developing ideas, “transforming them into the world of Arc Iris,” Tenorio-Miller recalls.

The Medicine Hat Release New Single

Today we have for you "New Survival" from The Medicine Hat. The single is from their upcoming album that is scheduled to be released this fall. Check it out below.

You can pick up "New Survival" HERE.

The Medicine Hat is a five-piece band from Hamilton, Ontario making experimental pop music. Frontwoman Nabi Sue Bersche's nimble, raw lyricism is illuminated by a voice like holy fire: blistering and purifying. Focussed guitar work dances with the hypnotic timbres and soaring melodies of analog synthesizers. Deft lines and dangerous grooves are intoned by a disciplined drum & bass combo. Chaos lurks beneath the surface of The Medicine Hat's tight motifs and rhythmic trances, erupting into moments of prophetic ecstasy. Their live performances are wild affairs. Brimstone at their heels, The Medicine Hat's contagious energy turns rooms into reveries.
