Kaki King To Release New Record, Announces Tour

Singer/songwriter and guitarist Kaki King has a new record coming out. Junior, King's fifth record will be released on April 13.
Junior delivers twists-and-turns: lyrically from exuberance and anger to heartbreaking melancholy; and sonically from experimental pieces to accessible pop. While there is plenty of the dazzling musicianship King has been renowned for, Junior showcases her further maturation as a well-rounded artist who defies categorization and expectations.

"I never made records for other people," she says. "My evolution from record to record has been personal not commercial."
The first leg of King's North American tour has been announced. New Yorkers, just days after the release of Junior, she will be rockin' two dates for us. On April 15, she will be at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The following night, April 16, she will be at Bowery Ballroom.

ResidentBand Features Jules Larson

Our friends over at ResidentBand have put together another stellar production. Episode 024 features "Love Crazy" by Jules Larson. The song is insanely catchy and I'm totally digging it. The song is off of Larson's record Strangers which was released late 2009 and is a nice piece of pop rock work. If Larson looks familiar you've probably seen her with her previous band Overnight Lows who were featured on ResidentBand early last year. You may also recognize her voice and song "Almost Blows My Mind" from Special K commercials. Check out Episode 024 below.

Video: Semi Precious Weapons - "Semi Precious Weapons"

Semi Precious Weapons had an orgy, called it a concert. They filmed it and made a porn, um, I mean a music video. I like to call it Semi Precious Porn but I'm quirky that way. Okay, it's not really porn! So, all of you prudes don't go getting your giant panties all in a wad.

Watch the gorgeous goodness below and sing along. I'll help you get started ... "I can't pay my rent but I'm fuckin' gorgeous!" Yes you are baby and we love you for it!

UPDATE: As of 2/17 ... scroll down, I've added the YouTube version as well for those who can't view the MySpace version.

We Landed On The Moon: February 9 @ Mercury Lounge, New York, NY

Baton Rouge pop rockers We Landed On The Moon played a gig at LES club Mercury Lounge on Tuesday. Interesting name for a band. I wonder how it came about. They're out on the road, so check their site for tour dates.

Meet The Dig

The Dig offers up all kinds of catchy pop goodness. Ya'll know I'm a fan of catchy goodness and so are you, right? Well, between playing all over the city, being on the road right now with The Editors and The Antlers and an upcoming tour with Portugal. The Man and Port O'Brien, you've probably gotten word of these guys already. If you by chance haven't heard them, check out "You're Already Gone" below. They will be releasing their full-length debut, Electric Toys, later this year.

The kinda sorta official list of reasons to check out The Dig ...
•Their work ethic is insane. For years they've been playing all over NYC regularly and hitting the streets with an endless stream of posters, flyers and free music (Fact: I had their robot postcard displayed in my kitchen for a year before I ever met them.)

• The Dig's forthcoming debut full-length Electric Toys was produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony & the Johnsons, The Ramones, Bishop Allen)

• The Dig have played/toured with The Walkmen, White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, Mission of Burma, The Soft Pack...

• Their the music is moody+poppy+catchy+sexy+dark+anthemic+dreamy
New Yorkers, The Dig will be taking the stage here! They'll be at Terminal 5 on February 19 with The Editors and The Antlers. A month later, they'll be at Highline Ballroom with Portugal. The Man and Port O'Brien on March 19.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Hymns

Hymns: February 9 @ Mercury Lounge, New York, NY

Tuesday night the Hymns took to the Mercury Lounge stage to rock out a set. They were retro, mod, folk, pop and a whole hell of a lot of fun. They were joined by a couple of horn players which kicked things into overdrive going full on stomp and boogie; we're talking early Stones style folks. If you haven't already had the pleasure, keep an eye out for these guys, they're good.
