Site Changes

If you've dropped by my little corner of the blog world for a visit then you may have noticed last weekend I started making some changes. Yep, this old chick gave herself a bit of a facelift. As with all good face work, the changes haven't been drastic, just a little nip here and tuck there.

A gal learns a lot when diving in head first without any knowledge of web design. So, it has all been a trial and error process and now, I'm peeling the bandages off little by little. If you've had a look around then you may have noticed there is now a separate page for additional MP3's. Most of the songs on the MP3 Grab page haven't appeared on the site before. I've also given my interviews their own little archive section. New interviews are in the works so keep an eye out. The list of tags are now in a pull down menu instead of that big ol' giant list that was taking up way too much space along the side of the page.

In the mist of my facelift I've "broken" some things! All of the streaming media that is hosted by me isn't working at the moment. Those will be fixed soon. And, while I backed up my site before making changes, I still managed to screw up things! Memo to me and any other do-it-yourself designers, make sure when you're making changes you haven't accidentally opened your back-up file. As a result, I lost my blog roll. Thank goodness that's the only thing I lost! I've added back what I could remember but if we've done a mutual link exchange and your blog isn't listed, let me know. The oversight wasn't intentional.

My facelift is still a work in process so there will be additional tweaks. But, if you hear an anguished scream and what sounds like a head banging against a desk, that'll be me having some mini-design disaster.

Cheers,

Quirky NY Chick

MP3: Lay Low - "I Forgot It's There"

I'm playing catch-up with all of the music and information connected with it, that has landed in my inbox... again. That being said, I'm 50 years behind on checking stuff out! But, being behind has it's bonuses. That bonus being that when you run across a gem, stuck somewhere between the spam and emails from Mom, you get a bit excited.

What gem did you find oh Quirky one, you ask? It's the song "I Forget It's There" by Lay Low from her upcoming album, Farewell Good Night's Sleep. The record is scheduled for its North American release, March 9. Lay Low is the alter ego of Icelandic singer-writer Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir. The record, her North American debut, is being released on her own label Loo Records. Check out the song in today's MP3 Grab below and watch the video for "By and By" which is also from the upcoming record.

Recorded and produced in London by Liam Watson (White Stripes, Holly Golightly, James Hunter) at his analog mecca Toe Rag Studios, the album features eleven new songs (ten penned by Law Low, plus a Lefty Frizzell cover) with backing from the following first-call musicians: Carwyn Ellis (piano), Ed Turner (guitar), Rupert Brown (drums), Matt Radford (bass), Jason Wilson (bass) and BJ Cole (pedal steel, dobro).

Photos & Video: Lisa Bianco At Arlene's Grocery 2/26

Lisa Bianco and The Fury: February 26
@ Arlene's Grocery, New York, NY

I headed over to Arlene's Grocery last night to see Lisa Bianco. She was joined onstage by Gerry Perlinski (guitar), Dan Fabricatore (bass) and Dan Duggins (drums). Bianco, a personable performer, is front and center full of smiles and some wicked guitar licks. And, she has surrounded herself with a stellar band.

I don't remember how I first came across Bianco's music but I do remember what song caught my attention. It was "Sideways" from her album Post Data which she played last night. It's a catchy number. This was my first time seeing her live so I wasn't sure what to expect show wise. I soon found out. The lady rocks... hard. I knew she was a rock chick, but for some reason I hadn't expected her to rock out like she did... wow! There are two things I'm a big fan of, good guitarists and women who rock. Bianco, of course, is both.

Bianco and band stormed through a tight set. Some of the songs I recognized from her record, others were new and there was one hell of a cover of Blondie's "Dreamin'". I had a great time. It was a good show and I'm glad I leaped slushy puddles and mounds of snow to catch it. Check out the photos from the set and the video for "Sun Glare," both below.

Video: Robert Francis - "Junebug" + MP3

Robert Francis premiered his new video last week. The song, "Junebug," is from his record Before Nightfall. Check it out below and download "Mescaline" in the MP3 Grab.

Just 22 years old, Robert displays a songwriting talent and musical breadth that far exceeds his young age, and has prompted National Public Radio to compare him to classic American songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Steve Earle. After self-producing and playing nearly every instrument on his 2007 independent release One by One Robert enlisted the services of Grammy Award winning producer D. Sardy for his Atlantic debut Before Nightfall.
