A couple of weeks ago I mentioned Chester French were hooking fans up with free stuff. Well, they unleashed Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance this past Wednesday. Did you get it? No? Why not, it's FREE!
Nashville band Paper Route, Chad Howat (bass, piano, programming), JT Daly (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Andy Smith (vocals, guitars, harmonica) and Gavin McDonald (drums), are set to release their full-length debut Absence on April 28.
They are also touring in support of the upcoming release of Absence. There are plenty of opportunities to catch them in the New York area. They'll be with Copeland at Southpaw in Brooklyn on April 20 and at The Crazy Donkey in Long Island on April 22. Then, they'll be back in the area on June 2 with Young Love at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan.
New York band Action Painters will be taking the stage at Cake Shop, this Thursday, April 9. I happened upon their debut EP, Chubby Dancer which was released in 2007, late last year. Better late than never, right?! "Sooner or Later" and "Absolutely Clear" from that EP, sold me on them, and are worth the price of the record alone. If you haven't already laid your happy little hands on that EP, it's worth checking out!
Today, I got word that Action Painters released a follow-up EP, Lay That Cable, last week! I've had a listen and I'm really enjoying it. It has a bit more of a harder edge to it than Chubby Dancer does. Nice band that they are, they have decided to be generous. For a limited time, fans can download Lay That Cable for FREE! Isn't that nice of them? Of course, if you like what you hear, you could also be super cool and BUY a copy. A full-length record is in the works that should be out later this year. And, they're hitting the road in April and May so if you see them playing near you, check them out.
The sophomore album from Minneapolis band Ice Palace, Wonder Subtly Crushing Us, will be available April 21 through Earthology Records. Ice Palace is the first band to join Cloud Cult on eco-friendly Earthology Records roster.
Hill Country Revue, the band formed by Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, will take the stage at Highline Ballroom this Thursday, April 9. The band features NMA band mate Chris Chew as well as Kirk Smithhart, Ed "Hot" Cleveland and Dixie Dan Coburn. Check them out if you get the chance.
The band also has a record, Make A Move, coming out on May 12.
