What You May Have Missed: Bob Schneider at The Bowery Ballroom

Bob Schneider: May 1, 2012 @ The Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY

Last week, I made it down to the Bowery Ballroom to catch Bob Schneider.  I've said it once, I'll say it again, Schneider is someone you have to see live ... it's an experience.  On that particular night, there were ribbon twirlers, girls in the balcony being questionable with glow sticks and some idiots throwing glow sticks.  Grow up folks, no projectile launching at the artists or anyone else; it's rude and childish.  His shows are eclectic which is one of the things I love most about them.  Plus, you never know when he might decide to change things up a bit and remix a song or two.

Schneider and band all seemed to be in good spirits and playing well.  Compared to the last time I saw him at the same venue about a year ago, the audience was a bit lackluster.  Yes, we sang along in all of the appropriate places with many of us being horribly off key.  Yes, we danced ... I was painfully reminded during "Bombanaza" that I had an injured toe.  But for some reason, it just never really felt like we fully connected with Schneider.  Regardless, I had a lot of fun and highly recommend you go to a show when Schneider plays near you or take a road trip if he's not.

Check out a clip of "Hanging Out With The Horny Girls" at the bottom of the post.

Video Of The Day: Bob Schneider - "Let The Light In"

Bob Schneider released a video for the lead single off his A Perfect Day album. The video is for the song "Let The Light In" and was produced by Cosmic Toast Studios and directed by Andy Pagana. Check out the video at the bottom of the post.

For those who haven't picked up A Perfect Day yet, you can get it from Amazon for $5 for the month of June. The album finds Schneider laid-back, fun and family friendly. His lyrics are sharp, often witty and disarmingly charming. This record is like listening to an old friend. This is breezy, Sunday morning, porch swing music.

Holiday Weekends & Bob Schneider

Bob Schneider: May 29 @ Bowery Ballroo
m, New York, NY

Give folks a three day weekend when it's warm out and two things happen. One, you want to eat and two, you want to party. There was no food at Bowery Ballroom but, Bob Schneider threw a party and served up a feast of music. Folks came to have fun. And fun we had. I dare say, we may have been louder than the last time I was down at the Bowery to see him.

Things were hot, sweaty and at times outright funky. Twenty-three songs (if I counted correctly!) yet, everyone was asking for more. A lot of the songs took on some reggae flavor (a bit more than usual) and there was a little more funk in the mix. "Ready, Let's Roll" well, I'm just going to call that version the 'Lap Dance Remix' ... yeah, funky bump 'n' grind y'all, that's all I'm saying. The hands down highlight of the night was 40 Dogs. When you're making that summer party mix-tape, that live version of 40 Dogs needs to be on it ... loose funk with horns, yeah, need I say more?

I keep saying it, you really have to see this man live. But be warned, you may have to go to BS Anonymous to deal with your Bob Schneider habit because, you will become addicted. Of course, if you're like the rest of us, you won't want to be cured. You'll just continue to happily look forward to your next Bob fix.

One Night With Bob Schneider ... At Bowery Ballroom, 4/3/10

Bob Schneider: April 3 @ Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY

After an excellent set by One eskimO and the horrible infliction that was the second act (review here), Bob Schneider took the stage at Bowery Ballroom. I hadn't seen Schneider in a spell so I was looking forward to it. His shows have become somewhat of a social gathering and it was nice to play catch up with my fellow frontline Bob fans.

Along for the ride, his top notch band, Billy Cassis (guitar) over on the far side of the stage where I could barely peep him, a demure looking Harmoni Kelly (bass), Conrad Chouchroun (drums) who was so close, yet so far away and Jay Thomas (steel drums on "Slower Dear") were in fine form. They are seriously one ass tight band. Schneider seemed to be having an extremely good time though his vocals seemed a little rushed at times and the beginning of "Big Blue Sea" was a little questionable. Somewhere along the line during "Tarantula," he donned a lucha mask. I don't ask questions. I just go along for the ride and he hasn't hit the ditch while I've been riding shotgun yet. Oh sure, there have been moments where I've wondered if we'd go over the rail but, no matter how many times we scrape the rail, I keep going along ... pure adrenalin.

I think the audience may have been the loudest I've heard in a while at one of his shows, seriously loud. One of the best parts of the audience experience, for me personally, I didn't have to endure an obnoxious, loud, drunk chick ... a first for me at a Bob show! I did more than my fair share of off-key singing along and oddly hilarious off-beat dancing because that's the kind of stuff that happens at a Bob Schneider show. Thankfully, there were no small animals or children around for me to frighten!

I had a ridiculously good time. And, I'll tell you again and again, you gotta see Schneider live. Join the cult, he won't make you drink purple kool-aid, only sing and dance.

Well Hot Damn, Bob Schneider On DVD!

The next best thing to going to see Bob Schneider live would be having a DVD of Schneider live. Well, actually the next best thing to going to seem him live would be for him to stop by your house and play for you but, since that's not likely to happen, we'll have to settle for a DVD.

Yes, ladies, gentlemen and random questionable but lovable sorts, Schneider has a nice shiny live DVD/CD set available. What's it called you ask? It's called Live At The Paramount Theatre. It was recorded last December in Austin at, as the title suggests, the Paramount Theatre. I've ordered mine ... big surprise there! Check out the trailer below for a taste of what you're in for.

Speaking of live Schneider, he'll be back in New York on November 20. This time he'll take the stage in Brooklyn at the Knitting Factory. Y'all know he's one of those people I recommend going to see.

In The Living Room With Bob Schneider

Bob Schneider: October 7 @ The Living Room, New York, NY

Last night I headed to the LES to catch Bob Schneider do one of his solo shows. If you haven't seen a Bob show, solo or otherwise, you should! I had no plans on writing anything about the show but, one Mr. Schneider was in peak form and that needed to be mentioned.

The Living Room is a great little venue to catch Schneider do his solo thing. The show was sold out and the audience was enthusiastic.

Since I wasn't planning on writing anything, I've decided to do an abbreviated write up. So, here's the Sally, Dick & Jane edition of my adventures in Schneider-land.

This is Bob.

Bob writes songs.

He plays guitar and sings too.

Sometimes he does those things in New York.

He did last night.

I like to go see Bob.

Bob is entertaining.

He joked and smiled.

I laughed and smiled.

Bob isn't Oompa-Loompa orange.

I like to take pictures.

I use the natural lighting setting and fantasize that I have photography skills.

Bob isn't black and white either.

Bob played a lot of songs.

I was happy.

Bob was happy we all came to see him.

He makes records too.

Bob has a new record.

The record is called Lovely Creatures.

This is what it looks like.

It's a good record.

Bob is good on the record.

But, he is addictive live.

I had great fun.

I look forward to seeing Bob again.

The end.

Schneider has other shows coming up. If you're in New York, he's doing another solo show tonight, October 8, at City Winery.

On a side note, the rain curse has been broken! The last three times I went to see Schneider, it rained. Last night, it didn't.

Bob Schneider Rocked At Bowery Ballroom

Bob Schneider: June 18 @ Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY

I went around to see Bob Schneider last night. I'm convinced that Schneider is the Rain God or at the very least, is a close personal friend of said God. Every time I go see him, it rains that day. Seriously, there's a connection; I'm sure of it.

Schneider is one of those guys you just have to see live, be it with his band or solo. Last night the band was all there. This was a full on electric show ... no acoustic guitar for Bob. He came to rock and he did just that.

The last time he was at the Bowery, he seemed a bit tired and I don't recall a lot of smiling. This time out he was smiling and more energetic. While all of Schneider's shows are fun, this one seemed to be overall the most fun I've seen in a while. Everyone, band and audience just seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot. There were plenty of sing-a-long moments; it wouldn't be a Bob Schneider show without those moments now would it? Are their people who don't know all of the sing-a-long bits? Unfortunately for the people around me, I did my fair share of off-key singing along.

The big highlight for me was "Bombananza." I think this was the first time I've heard it live. I may be wrong, I have my senile moments, but I'm fairly sure it is. Did I spell 'Bombananza' right? Anyway, it was somewhere around this point in the show where I became a hot sweaty mess. Thanks Bob! Another highlight was "Country Club" which at the moment is my favorite Schneider song.

I had a great time. You should go check Schneider out should he be playing near you. Once you see him, you'll keep going back for more. That folks is a good thing in my opinion.

Here are the photos from his set.The video ...
